Somatic Integration & Healing
Heart-centered counseling paired w/ holistic therapeutic modalities to heal body, mind, and heart
Service Description
Somatic Integration & Healing honors the holistic Islamic conception of being, uplifting the interconnectedness of body, mind, heart, and soul, and we will journey together on all of these levels towards self-connection and healing. Gabor Maté explains that trauma, Greek for wound, “is not what happens to you; it is what happens inside you as a result of what happens to you.” When we experience overwhelming emotions, stress, or trauma, our nervous system can become dysregulated and the body can shift into survival mode. If the experience cannot be fully processed at the time, the nervous system may remain braced, collapsed, or guarded. These experiences are not only a memory in the mind; they can become a pattern held in the body from an unfinished protective response. Over time, this can manifest as chronic tension, pain, anxiety, or chronic illness, or it can feel like numbness, fatigue, and disconnection— from our emotions, from our bodies, and even from our hearts. Together we will explore the root causes of your challenges and work towards healing, self-connection, growth, and balance. We will support the body in coming into safety, regulation and connection, and help it towards gently completing interrupted survival responses. We will work on this from a spiritually grounded, heart-centered perspective, seeking healing as a part of our spiritual work and journey to Allah, connecting the healing of the body and mind to the wellbeing, healing, and contentment of the soul. Each experience in our lives is from Allah and can play a role in our deeper growth and spiritual transformation. This is not to bypass the pain, but in the hardship to know that we are with Allah, and that there is deeper purpose in each moment of suffering, which can support us in being grounded through the challenges we face. Healing often deepens in the spaces between our time together, so we will provide gentle practices that we encourage you to do between sessions, such as journaling, affirmations, breathwork, gratitude, dhikr, movement, or meditation. We can create a plan together that feels nourishing and not overwhelming– one that can support your healing journey without feeling like another thing on your plate. I don't want finances to be a barrier to care, and I offer some limited sliding scale options for those with demonstrated need.
